How to draw mushrooms – new sketching class!

A few emails ago I asked around if you would be interested in a mini class about sketching mushrooms, because I had collected quite a few reference pictures and subjects that I brought in from the forest. Many of you replied enthusiastically, and so I started to work on the lessons.

I’m happy to announce the class is finished and ready to purchase and watch. I had so many different mushrooms that the intended “mini class” has turned into a regular-length class. Mushrooms are super fun to sketch, and I actually left some recorded videos out of the class in order to keep it at a reasonable length (2 hours of video lessons about mushrooms seems plenty and I covered a lot of different species!).

By now, late autumn with frost has arrived here, so the mushroom season is practically over, but maybe you can find mushrooms wherever you live.

Here’s what’s inside the class:

The class will show you basic techniques for drawing and painting mushrooms. I will show methods for drawing different shapes of mushrooms and how to paint a variety of colors and textures that mushrooms have. We will use different materials like colored pencils and watercolor in the class – so you can use the medium you like in your sketchbook.

This class is great for anyone who wants to explore drawing mushrooms – they are beautiful, come in an amazing variety, and you can find them almost anywhere. The class is for beginning sketchers, and those who love exploring nature with their sketchbook and open eyes. I find that looking for the next mushroom to sketch is half the fun! You will need basic drawing skills for the class, and a way to add color to your sketches.

You can use the drawing techniques from this class for journaling about your mushroom sightings in nature, or for exploring different textures and colors in your sketchbook and learning more about how simple shapes are put together. Learning how to draw mushrooms is easy and fun.

The class is available on Gumroad (with pay-what-you-want pricing) or through Skillshare (get free weeks when you join).

A big thank you to everyone who supports me directly by purchasing the class through my website, and especially the kind people who give way more than I ask. You make these classes and this blog possible!
