Painting a hummingbird

In this bird painting video, I show a detailed painting of a ruby-throated hummingbird. These little creatures are amazingly colorful and with their iridescent feathers they look like sparkling jewels. So sketching a hummingbird can only be an attempt at capturing their exceptional beauty. In hindsight and after studying more references of this particular bird, maybe I should have opted for a darker red with more blue, a ruby like in the bird’s name, instead of the orange red I chose? Hummingbird aficionados, please give me your feedback!

I painted this bird with my (now disassembled) large watercolor palette with mostly very transparent colors. You can learn more about that palette here: My watercolor palette in 2020

I hope you enjoy this one!
