Here’s another coast scene in watercolor (and a bit of gouache). I have a lot of fun doing these with my old vacation pictures! When painting landscapes in watercolor, you can slowly build up layers of color and give a lot of depth to the objects you paint, like rocks or water. And if you find you need to add some highlights or light objects back in, you can mix in gouache and paint with light colors on top. I love painting like this because it gives me the best of both worlds!

Last week I also shared a painting video featuring two colorful bee eaters. These are very special birds and it was very interesting to learn more about them when I researched for this video. Yes, they are able to eat stinging insects and they’re one of the few really colorful bird species that live here.
