In this landscape watercolor tutorial (with a little bit of gouache and colored pencil mixed in) I share how I paint foliage, foamy and translucent water.
I’m still enjoying making landscape paintings from vacation photos, this time from a mountain stream in the Italian alps – in fact I’d love to go back there right now. From the location where I took this photo the path led further up into a narrow gorge that you climbed through on metal stairs, one person at a time, with turquoise, ice-cold water. The water has made its way through the white marble stone over centuries, still often there was not a lot of room to squeeze through. It was one of those places that you can’t take good photos of, but have to experience directly – hence my photo from the entrance area of the gorge. Our path continued on the right side, further up the stream.
Enjoy the painting tutorial!

In case you want to prepare for next week’s International Nature Journaling Week (learn more about this event in yesterday’s blog post or on the website), feel free to browse through my blog posts about nature journaling. Of course you can also take a look at my nature journaling classes if you want more direct instruction. I’m keeping the pay-what-you-want pricing for the time being (thank you to everyone who generously gave more! I couldn’t do this without you!). I’m looking forward to the event and hope to see you there next week. 🙂
