Adding color to sketchbook pages – Sketchbook Composition

In the next outtake from my new class Sketchbook Composition + Layout I’ll show how you can use color to make your compositions more dynamic and interesting. Color is a very powerful design tool, even just the monochrome variant like in the example.

Here’s the video:

Color can add a lot information, and, equally important, it will automatically lead the eye through the page. By using color selectively and only adding it to some sketches, or to a focal area on your page, you can shift the focus to these spots.

In this video outtake, we’ll see how doing this can add a lot of charm to a page and doesn’t make it look unfinished – it will rather show the study character of the sketchbook.

In the full class (over 1.5 hours of video), I’ll show many more example for how to use color when sketching, and how it can be combined with other elements of composition to create beautiful, interesting sketchbook pages.

The class is available from my website.
