Sketching fieldfares in ink and watercolor

Here’s a quick video I did back in the winter months when I saw a lot of fieldfares. They typically come in small swarms and eat up all the apples that are still hanging on the trees.

P.S. I’m currently working on updating my bird drawing class (the new videos will be free for existing students). Are there any particular birds you’d like to see sketched? Let me know in the comments if you have any wishes!

  1. I would like to see woodpeckers (red-headed, red-bellied or other), cardinals, blue jays, chickadees, or nuthatches. Thank you.

      • Also Goldfinch. They’re just turning yellow at my MN USA bird feeder. This is too many — just suggestions.

        • Goldfinches are so beautiful! And I’m happy about the suggestions – this way I can add a few detailed tutorials to the class, and the rest are ideas for shorter Youtube videos. 🙂

  2. Hi Julie, I was fortunate to take a trip to the Faroe Islands many years ago and since then the Puffin has been one of my favorite birds – so thank you so much for sharing that video.
The last couple of weeks visiters (friends and family) has been just a few, but for the first time a flock of Bohemean Waxwings (>20) have been visiting daily to eat all the berries left in my garden. As this have never happened before the joy has been even greater.
So my wish for another bird has to be Bohemean Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus = Seidenschwanz = Silkehale).
    Best wishes Hanne

  3. Oops I posted before I finished typing! I have enjoyed your class on drawing birds. I also made my own sketchbook and have been drawing birds out of magazines ,too. I was wondering about teaching on how to draw ducks? Maybe mallards, mergansers, etc. I like how you provided information on bird anatomy and wish it were available in a pdf so I could glue it in my sketchbook. I also have been drawing clouds and butterflies. I really appreciate that you made the classes available since I don’t want to subscribe to Skillshare. You are so talented and thank you for sharing your artistic talent with us!
