Finally, here’s the first video from my new landscape sketching series about folk tale landscapes.
In this series, I’m looking for landscapes that could be the background for local legends and folk tales. I’m not looking to illustrate any of the stories themselves, I’m just interested in the mood and atmosphere behind these stories and I’m looking for ways to transport this in a landscape sketch. I’m basically doing the same thing as, let’s say, the location scouts from the X-Files would do: finding potentially interesting, moody spots in the forest, connecting them to a back story, choosing the lighting, and painting them this way.
For more info about this painting series (and about my background), read on here and here. I started researching and creating these paintings last year and it’s still continuing as I’m looking for new interesting places. Current restrictions have slowed the process a bit, but I like the thought of having an ongoing project in the back of my mind.
Here’s the first video of the series – dark trees in front of a misty forest that I painted in gouache:
Folk Tale Landscapes – Dark Trees in Gouache (#1)
Hope you enjoy it!
Here’s the finished sketch:
Julia, I loved your landscape. I’m going to give it a try using watercolor.
Thank you! I’ve painted a lot of my later ones with watercolor too.
