Getting a feeling for how the brush pen works is essential for good brush lettering, and regular warm up practice before you start writing is also very important to produce expressive, well-formed letters. Fill a page or two with these shapes before you start writing, you will really see the difference!

I also go through different basic shapes that will come in handy when you are constructing your letters later.

You can do these exercises with a simple pointed brush or with a brush pen.
